Aiden, a junior in Miami who plays varsity and travel basketball, went from a 790 on his freshman-year PSAT to a 1010 on his first SAT, about eight weeks after starting with Florida Test Prep on August 6. His one-on-one sessions with his tutor Caleb fit around practice, and the biggest change came in math, where he learned how to read what a problem was asking.

Where Aiden started

Aiden's last official score was a 790 on the PSAT his freshman year. He skipped it sophomore year because he was traveling for basketball. His worry going in was "having, like, a low SAT score and not being able to, like, build it up."

His mom Alicia's worry was the calendar: "because he's involved in so many things, how are we gonna make this work?" She also saw what the test did to him on his own. "When he first went into this, he was super stressed out."

"I knew he could do a lot better, I just knew that he needed some guidance."

Aiden's mom, Alicia

Step 1 of 3 · Map

The diagnostic, and what it found

Aiden described the problem the way many students who start near 800 do. Effort was not the issue. He did not know where to begin on a question, and his sessions started from there.

MathNot knowing how to analyze a problem or which method it called forQuestions he could solve went unanswered because he did not know where to start.

Step 2 of 3 · Master

What Aiden drilled, week by week

Aiden never attended a class; his schedule would not allow it. He booked one-on-one sessions with Caleb on whichever weeknights were open and moved them when a game got in the way.

The pairingMatched with Caleb, a tutor Aiden could relate to"You're very good at interviewing the kids and seeing what type of person they need to be with."

The updatesOpen communication between Caleb, Aiden and Alicia"So I always know what's going on."

The change Alicia noticed most was in how he felt about it. "He actually looked forward to it."

"I'm still his parent, and I want to understand and know where he's at, and how he's learning, and what he's learning."

Step 3 of 3 · Mock

Rehearsal, then test day

Along the way Aiden took full-length practice tests with us, so his first official SAT was not his first time through the whole test under time. He sits it again in December.

"Like, I feel confident that I can build it up more, with more practice."

Aiden

The result, and what it unlocked

Aiden scored a 1010 on his first SAT, 220 points above his freshman-year PSAT of 790, and above the +172 our students average. The two numbers come from two different tests, so we label both.

He is a junior, still working with Caleb, and testing again in December. Alicia's view: "I've seen a huge growth in a short duration."

What Aiden's story says about SAT prep for an athlete with a packed schedule

A packed schedule is a scheduling problem, not a reason to skip prep, and one-on-one sessions solve it. Aiden plays varsity and travel basketball and is in DECA, never made a single class, and still went from a 790 PSAT to a 1010 on his first SAT in about eight weeks, above the +172 our students average. He booked sessions on open weeknights and moved them when games moved. His mom's verdict on the worry she started with: the scheduling was the easiest part.

The misconception: my athlete has no time for SAT prep

Families of athletes often wait for the off season, and then the off season fills up too. What athletes usually lack is a fixed slot, not time. Prep that books week by week and moves when practice moves removes that problem.

Quick answers

Can a varsity athlete fit in SAT prep during the season?

Yes. Aiden played varsity and travel basketball, was in DECA, and did all of his prep in one-on-one sessions booked around his schedule. In his words: "if I needed to reschedule, it would be, like, really quick to reschedule it. It was easy."

Is a 790 on the PSAT a bad starting point?

It is a starting point, not a ceiling. Aiden scored a 790 on the PSAT as a freshman and a 1010 on his first SAT about eight weeks after starting prep as a junior.

How does a parent know how SAT prep is going?

Alicia stayed in the loop through open communication with Aiden's tutor. As she put it: "So I always know what's going on."

This site is absolutely AMAZING! After completing the test prep, I went from a 1230 to a 1330 and now I have full bright futures! This whole process was great as it gave me lots of hope that I could reach the 1300s in a 2 months and I did. The instructions were amazing and very helpful. I would 100% recommend.

I learned things that I hadn't found in my own research and then was able to get a breakdown of the more complicated material that seamed out of reach before. I had Ms. Violette and she truly was able to efficiently work through the material in a way I understood. This is something I would recommend to my friends and I am so glad I didn't miss out on this opportunity.

When I started my SAT journey my PSAT was a 910 and I’ve tried many different courses to help bring that up and this is only only course that seems to actually make a good difference. My last practice test was a 1210 which gets me 75% for bright futures if I can do that on a test but those Proctoring this course continue to push me past limits I didn’t think I would be able to break through.

It has been amazing. All the tutors are extremely smart and really break down every single section of the SAT so thoroughly. I would definitely recommend Florida test prep to other people because my score boosted up 100 points and i have felt so confident. The times that they offer is so good aswell. They also do essay help which i thought was very helpful because i really needed some help with my essay and how to make it better and after those classes i felt like my essay had improved so much. Overall Florida Test Prep has been amazing.

I have just started this course, and I am already loving it. The classes have been a great review of topics I already know, and I have still been able to learn lots of new information and helpful tips. One of the things I really appreciate is that this course truly teaches to the test. I found that a lot of other SAT study materials weren’t as helpful because I didn’t understand the foundations of some math processes. However, this course reviews the basics to make sure no one is left behind. And if we do get lost, my tutor, Karen, is always ready to answer questions and make sure we understand. I was hesitant to start the course because I didn’t know what to expect, but I am so glad I did. I am genuinely impressed with how much I have been able to learn in such a short amount of time. Most importantly, I know I’m not on this journey alone, and that means a lot to me.

I haven't taken the SAT yet, but I already feel more prepared than I ever expected. The lessons are clear and easy to follow, and the Desmos strategies make hard problems way faster. The practice problems are very close to the real test, so I know exactly what to expect. My practice scores went from 1100 to 1290 I highly recommend this class to prepare.

I started at a 1040, my score went up to 1200. I’m a college student and I ended up moving out in the middle of lessons taking place, but even with the time constraints I managed to learn so much. I definitely recommend Florida Test Prep! My daughter usually hates online courses, but this was one she actually enjoyed. Her teacher was very interactive with the students and did an excellent job explaining everything in a way that was easy to understand. The communication and additional support outside of the course were also great. As a parent, I really appreciated receiving weekly updates on how my daughter was doing and whether she had any homework due. It made it much easier to make sure she was staying on task and keeping up with the course. By the end of the six-week course, my daughter had improved her test score by an incredible 160 points! More importantly, the course really helped build her confidence. My only wish is that I had signed her up sooner. I truly believe that if she had started earlier, her score could have been even higher. I 100% recommend Florida Test Prep. You will not be disappointed!

My daughter enjoyed the tutoring offered at Florida Prep. She wrote the SAT in August of 2026 for the second time and had a huge increase in score of 160 points. That’s huge and it says a lot about the tutors and staff. I received weekly updates from Brianna’s teacher and any questions that I had was always answered in a timely and professional manner. Carson is awesome also, I spoke with him initially and he was able to provide to me in detail a structured plan on the program and what they offer that’s different from other tutors. and they were able to execute exactly what they’re offering.Their price is absolutely affordable compared to others that I have looked into. I would highly recommend Florida Prep for anyone needing the extra tutoring for their child whether it’s their first time taking the SAT or looking for an increase in their score.

I learned a lot about the math and reading sections that I didn’t understand coming into the class. Karina really helped break down everything and made sure we were all understanding each little bit of the content. My only gripe comes to the book and not the instructor. I know the instructor follows the book, but if you could expand the book more in depth on the math I think it could boost the people who pay for this class more. I would definitely understand a lot more if there were more practice questions to test my understanding of the topic.

Tutors are good and helpful. Every week u have consistent homework and complete access to many practice tests. As the course goes on, it tracks your scores after every practice tests to see what u have improved on and what u still need to work on. Ms. Karen Wolff was my instructor for this class. She was so helpful and understanding throughout the whole course. If I missed a question she never made me feel bad or called me out and always explained answers throughly. The energy she had with my class was bright and it didn’t feel like she had to be there but she wanted to. My practice score before I started here was an 850 and my most recent score was a 1010. My actual SAT score is soon but this class has helped me improve on many levels. Asking questions about the homework and/ or classwork was never a problem and I always felt like I understood after her explanations. Overall, the experience of preparing for the SAT through the study group I had wasn't bad at all, it was actually pretty welcoming. Not only did I get to stay in my comfort zone, but I also gained the necessary knowledge of going into the SAT for the first time. Sure it takes a while for the meetings to end, but that's a small price to pay to see the results flow in. I'd say that at the moment, they are doing a pretty great job at educating us students. Aiden: I went from a 790 to a 1010 in eight weeks. I was probably worried about just, like, having a, like a low SAT score and not being able to, like, build it up.

Alicia (Aiden's mom): and I was also worried, you know, because he's involved in so many things, how are we gonna make this work? But really the scheduling was the easiest part.

Aiden: just knowing, like, what to do on each question.

Alicia (Aiden's mom): Because when he first went into this, he was super stressed out just taking it without any, without any help. And then once he received help from you guys and his tutor, Caleb, it was, it was like, it was so much easier, and it wasn't a chore anymore. It was, it was...
