EJ, a Riverview High School football player, raised his SAT from a 950 to a 1090 in eight weeks of 1-on-1 tutoring with Florida Test Prep, a 140 point gain with a retake already on the calendar. The diagnostic pointed at math fundamentals, the sessions went only there, and his dad got a debrief after every one. This is not a scholarship story yet, and we are not going to dress it as one. "EJ's starting score was a 950. Obviously we weren't satisfied with that. We knew that he could perform at a higher level," his dad says. The worry was bigger than the number: "We were most worried about finding the right college fit for our son, making sure he had the confidence and space to take the test and perform at his highest level."
EJ names his own weak spot without flinching: "The hardest thing about the SAT for me, me personally, was the math portion." And he had a destination in mind: "My dream for college was Florida State or FAMU." The family vetted before committing. A recommendation from a friend, then EJ's mom, "a constant researcher," went in and "validated and vetted your references."

The diagnostic, and what it found
The baseline confirmed what EJ already suspected and made it usable: the 950 was a math score problem first. Below 1000, the missing points are rarely exotic. They are fundamentals that were never drilled to the point of being automatic, and a test that felt like it was written in another language. Both are fixable, and both were named in week one.

The change his dad describes is not only the score line: "he's gained a tremendous amount of confidence, and it's obviously showing in his results." For a student who started the process unsure of the test, that confidence is the asset the retake gets built on. The 1090 is now the floor, because Bright Futures and the Florida schools superscore across sittings, and nothing from the first climb can be lost.

A 950 became a 1090 in eight weeks. The family's own framing is the right one: "this is just the beginning, because he's going to be taking the test again, so we expect to see another substantial jump in the score." That is how climbs from the 900s actually work: not one miracle sitting, but stacked, planned jumps, each one banked by superscoring so nothing is ever lost.
We are not going to spin a 1090 into a college-list victory lap, and the family is not asking us to. EJ's dream schools are FSU and FAMU, and the way there is the same road he is already on: the next milestone is a number, then the one after it.

What EJ's eight weeks say about how fast a score can move
Eight weeks of targeted SAT prep moved EJ's score 140 points, and that number is the honest center of what a short program does. It sits just under our program average, ahead of the 115 point average College Board's published research found for students with 20 or more hours of official practice, and well past the 0 to 50 point range skeptics cite for unstructured studying. Averages are made of stories like EJ's, not just the headline jumps, which is exactly why we publish it.
The misconception: real SAT gains take a school year
The advice most families hear is three to six months minimum, and eight weeks gets called too short. EJ's 140 points came in exactly eight weeks because the time was concentrated: a diagnostic that named the math gaps, 1-on-1 sessions that went only there, and a parent debrief keeping the week honest. Months of unfocused practice can move a score less than weeks of aimed practice. The calendar is not the variable that matters most; the targeting is.

EJ's dad: I'm a Riverview High School parent, and my son went from a 950 to a 1090 in eight weeks. We were most worried about finding the right college fit for our son, making sure he had the confidence and space to take the test and perform at his highest level. Well, we chose Florida Test Prep because it came with a reputable, you know, recommendation from a friend of the family. We also did our research online. My wife is a constant researcher, and she was able to kind of go in and figure out all of the ins and outs and, you know, kind of validated and vetted your references. And so it really worked out really well, in the respect that it gave us an opportunity to kind of engage with you in a way that set that time aside for EJ. The one-on-one tutoring circumstance really made a difference for him. And it's obviously shown in his end result, which is his score is increasing substantially over the short period of time. He's gained a tremendous amount of confidence, and it's obviously showing in his results. And this is just the beginning, because he's going to be taking the test again, so we expect to see another substantial jump in the score.

You know, we invest in the stock market. We invest in homes. We invest in a lot of things. But I believe our children are our future. And so by teaching them well and utilizing your program, it's allowing him to really engage a side of his abilities that I don't think he really understood. And so as we look forward to the future with college, I'm excited to say that, you know, he can have a better opportunity to actually get into the space from an admission standpoint with a better test score. And so, you know, I would always encourage any parent to always invest in your children. They're more than worth it. And I think the dividends that you will get in return will be their success in the future.
