Where Jonathan started
Jonathan came in with a 1020 and a clear diagnosis of his own: "I think the hardest part was the math section for me." He was homeschooling for the year, playing football, and only a sophomore, which meant the family was planning early instead of scrambling late.
The goal was never vague. Asked what worried him most before starting, Jonathan said it plainly: "The thing I was probably most worried about was getting the scholarships." At a 1020, the Medallion line was 170 points away.

The diagnostic, and what it found
The first week was a full baseline practice test, graded question by question. Jonathan's own read on the test turned out to be right, and the diagnostic made it specific: the math section was where the 1020 was being decided, and inside it the loss was less about content than about pacing and picking which questions to fight.

What Jonathan drilled, week by week
Eight weeks of sessions aimed only at what the diagnostic flagged, worked around a football schedule. "During my time with the tutor I did football, and I would just do the tutoring classes before practice and before my games." Homework was tracked session by session, and the family got the update every time.

The part the family talks about most is not a math trick. It is the reporting. Because Jonathan was homeschooling, those updates did double duty: "those frequent touch points with the tutor allowed us the visibility and transparency which we needed."

The last two weeks were full-length timed practice, so the real sitting was a repeat of something he had already done. Asked what improved most, he credits "testing strategies and also time management," not a personality transplant. The 1220 came on the first official attempt after the program, with two more years of high school ahead.

Eight weeks after the 1020 baseline, Jonathan scored a 1220. Two hundred points, as a 15 year old. A 1020 earns zero Bright Futures money; a 1220 clears the 1190 Florida Medallion Scholars line, and because the state superscores across sittings with unlimited retakes through August 31 of senior year, a score banked in 10th grade keeps working. The next line up is Florida Academic Scholars at 1330, and he has two years to chase it.
His mom's summary runs through what the number means for the family: "This has opened up the doors for scholarship opportunities for him. Whether he wants to stay in state in Florida or whether he wants to go to school out of state, it's going to open up the doors for more scholarship opportunities for him and keep money in our pockets."

What Jonathan's jump says about 200 point improvements
A 200 point SAT improvement is real but above typical, and it takes structure, not luck. Jonathan's +200 sits above our own program average, and we say so. For an outside benchmark, College Board's published research found students who put in 20 or more hours of official practice averaged a 115 point gain. The difference between those numbers is not a secret ingredient. It is a diagnostic that names the exact weak skills, sessions that go only there, and someone checking the homework every week.
The misconception: SAT scores are fixed
Parents hear that the SAT measures something innate and that a low PSAT is a ceiling. Jonathan's score moved 200 points in eight weeks because most of what the test measures at the 1000 level is approach: pacing, strategy, and knowing which questions to fight. Those are trainable. Not every student gains 200 points, and no honest tutor promises it. But "the score is the score" is simply not how the test works.

Can a homeschooled student do SAT prep?
Yes, and the reporting matters more. Jonathan's family got an update after every session by text, email or video, which gave them the visibility a classroom teacher would normally provide. The sessions themselves ran the same way as for any other student.
Can my student prep during football season?

Interviewer: What were you most worried about before we started?

Interviewer: What felt the hardest about the SAT before we got started?
Jonathan: I think the hardest part was the math section for me.
Interviewer: Why did you want a high SAT score?
Jonathan: The reason I wanted a high SAT score is so I could, you know, get the scholarship score and not have to pay money for college.
Interviewer: So was there anything that made you hesitate about hiring a tutor or us specifically?
Jonathan's mom: I think maybe the biggest hesitation was initially just the cost, but recognizing that we know that we wanted a particular score for Jonathan and it would take an investment. So we worked with you and we were okay with making that investment, and we have no regrets. He did very well.
Interviewer: What happened in the first few weeks that convinced you it was working?
Jonathan's mom: So what happened in the first couple of weeks that made us know it was working was Jonathan's response. He was showing that he was getting it. He said that it was very effective in terms of how he was learning, the tutor, and then we started to see just results from the different practice tests. And so we knew that this is effective.
Interviewer: What sports or clubs are you a part of? What made this tutoring doable while you were a part of those sports and clubs?
Jonathan: During my time with the tutor I did football, and I would just do the tutoring classes before practice and before my games.
Interviewer: What would you tell a parent on the fence about us?
Jonathan's mom: What I would tell a parent is what I have already told parents about Carson, you, and the other Florida tutors: if they want to see drastic improvement in their student, then they do need to make the investment now. Because you are going to pay if you do want your child to go to college. So if I can pay a fraction of the cost now and invest in getting that SAT score, that is going to save me thousands and thousands of dollars when my child goes to college. So I have already told a couple of parents, and hopefully they have reached out, because I told them how extremely effective the sessions have been.
Interviewer: What do you think you improved most on during the course?
Jonathan: I think my biggest improvement was probably testing strategies and also time management.
Interviewer: Anything else that we did well you would like to share or let other parents know?
Jonathan's mom: I think what was helpful for Reggie and I was the communication that we received from Carson. When we first started, we knew that we only had 10 weeks, and we didn't want to wait and hope and say, oh well, hopefully he'll pass. We wanted to know, is our child doing his part, right? Is he doing the homework lessons? And so every single week, or after every session, Carson would send out both an email update or a video or a text. We created a text group and he gave real-time updates so that we would know, oh, he took the wrong test, or he didn't do the right homework, or he's on the right path. And doing homeschool for this year, that was very critical for us, to know that he was putting in the work so he could get the results. It would also count as an elective, and so there were certain hours that were required, and those frequent touch points with the tutor allowed us the visibility and transparency which we needed to help him stay on that path.
Interviewer: And then what would you tell a friend about us?
Jonathan: Definitely tell them to go with you guys. It may be hard work, but it pays off in the end.
