“The old backup plan” is gone
A generation of Florida parents remembers FSU as the school you fell back on. That mental model is now dangerously out of date: with 86,000+ applications for ~6,200 seats, FSU turns away the overwhelming majority — including thousands of students with excellent grades. What separates admits isn't the GPA (almost everyone's is high). It's the score.
The one-score, two-doors overlap
Here's the arithmetic every Florida family should see: FSU's admitted range starts at 1340 — and the Bright Futures FAS threshold is 1330. Ten points apart. A student who trains to the FAS score has, in the same motion, put themselves at the doorstep of FSU's admitted range with 100% of tuition already covered. This is why we tell families the 1330 is the single most valuable number in Florida admissions.
Does FSU require the SAT?
Yes — like every Florida public university, FSU requires an SAT, ACT, or CLT score. Florida never adopted test-optional admissions.
