What will college cost after Bright Futures?

Compare UF, FSU, UCF and USF. See what the scholarship may cover—and what your family still needs to budget.

Bright Futures can cover eligible tuition. It does not make the whole year free. Housing, food, books and everyday expenses still belong in your family’s plan. This estimates one fall-and-spring academic year for a Florida-resident undergraduate, using 2026–27 published budgets.

Each card uses that school’s published credit load and budget. Select a school below to adjust it for your family.

Make it your budget

Changing school or living arrangement resets its credit and living-cost defaults. Other aid applies only to your selected school. Do not count Bright Futures twice, or enter loans as scholarships.

What the published budgets include

These are starting estimates, not invoices. Living with parents still has a budget allowance; it is not a promise that your family will spend that amount.

How this estimate works

We subtract the school’s published Bright Futures award rate × your eligible credits, plus any published term allowance, from the estimated annual budget. We then subtract the other grants and scholarships you enter. Remaining cost stops at $0; this tool does not predict a refund.

Changing credits scales the tuition-and-fee budget proportionally. Fixed fees may not scale on your actual bill. Housing and food can be edited; other categories retain the university’s annual estimates. Plan for two funded semesters with at least six eligible credits each. Summer, online-only pathways, graduate study, out-of-state tuition and special program charges need a separate estimate.

Other aid, Florida Prepaid and financial-aid packaging can change the result. Check your university’s aid offer before making a commitment. Loan proceeds help finance a cost; they do not reduce it.

Why can a little tuition remain with FAS?

The state covers tuition and specified fees, not every fee on a bill. A rounded budget can also differ from the per-credit award. We keep those differences visible instead of forcing tuition to $0.

Does 75% Bright Futures mean we pay 25% of college?

No. At these universities, the percentage applies to eligible tuition and fees. Your housing, meals and other expenses are a separate part of the budget. See the official award rules, Chapter 2.
