FSU’s Marching Chiefs are heading to Macy’s parade
FSU announced on September 7 that its band was selected for the November 2027 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The university expects about 420 students to make the trip.
For a student who loves music, this is a reason to investigate campus opportunities. Ask how to join, what the weekly commitment looks like and whether participation works with the major your teen is considering.

What does USF’s incoming-class record tell parents?
USF reports its highest average SAT and high-school GPA for a first-year class, alongside 83 National Merit Scholars. The class grew 9.3% over the prior year; that figure does not describe total university enrollment.
An enrolled-class profile provides context, not an admission guarantee. It also cannot establish that admission became more selective without comparable application and offer data. Keep those distinctions in mind when comparing your teen’s scores.

UF: TIME’s public-university ranking
In an August 31 report, UF announced fourth place among public universities in TIME’s 2026–27 college ranking. That is a result from one named ranking system, not a universal position across all college rankings.
For your family, use it as a starting point. Then compare the actual program, campus and cost for your teen.

UCF: Washington Monthly’s 2026 ranking
UCF’s August 31 report lists it 11th among public universities in Washington Monthly’s 2026 rankings, which consider social mobility, research and public service.
The report’s $24,567 “cost per degree” is an institutional efficiency measure. It is not your student’s tuition bill or a four-year cost estimate. Compare published cost of attendance and the aid your family qualifies for instead.

FAMU: Niche’s 2027 HBCU ranking
FAMU’s September 2 announcement reports first place in Niche’s 2027 HBCU ranking. Niche considers institutional data and student feedback. The publisher and edition matter when comparing this result with another ranking.
