Updated August 2026 by Carson Flowers.

The short answer: Florida Poly publishes a single average rather than a range, and its students average 1215 on the SAT. That is a useful number for a Poly-bound family, because the Bright Futures Academic Scholars line of 1330 sits about 115 points above it.

The numbers

Average SAT1215. Poly publishes one average and no middle 50%, and states no cohort year alongside it.

Acceptance ratePoly does not publish one on its facts page. Treat any figure you find elsewhere as a third-party estimate.
Test requiredYes. SAT, ACT, or CLT. No test-optional path.

Figures from Florida Polytechnic University's published facts and rankings page, checked August 2026, plus the Florida Department of Education's Bright Futures award chart. Poly revised what it publishes during 2026, swapping an earlier score range for these single averages, so confirm current figures with Poly Admissions before relying on any summary, ours included.

The state's all-STEM campus

Florida Poly in Lakeland is the state's all-STEM public university, focused entirely on engineering and computer science, and the newest member of the State University System. The applicant pool is self-selected: nearly everyone applying is already committed to a technical degree, which shapes the class more than any admissions filter does. Math performance on the SAT carries particular weight for a school like this.

What the average means for your teen

An average is not a cutoff. Roughly half of Poly's students scored below 1215 and roughly half above, so a score in the 1100s is not disqualifying and a score in the 1300s is genuinely strong here. Because Poly publishes no middle 50%, there is no published band to sit inside, which makes the average the only honest anchor available.

For a student targeting Poly specifically, the math section deserves the attention. The whole curriculum leans on it, and it is the section that most changes how a technical program reads an application.

The Bright Futures overlap

Here the scholarship is the harder target, not the school. The Florida Academic Scholars line of 1330 sits about 115 points above Poly's average, so a student who trains for the scholarship arrives at Poly comfortably above the typical admitted student and with 100% of tuition and applicable fees covered.

That is worth planning around. A Poly-bound family aiming only at admission is aiming at the lower of the two numbers, and the money is sitting a little further up. For students graduating in 2028 or later the Academic Scholars line rises to 1350, with the Medallion line at 1200. Details are in our handbook walkthrough.

The misconception: Poly is the easy option in the state system

Poly is small and newer than the rest of the State University System, which leads families to file it under safety school. That misreads what the number is measuring. A 1215 average at an all-engineering campus describes a room full of students who chose a technical degree on purpose, and it is a stronger profile than the raw figure suggests once you account for who is in the pool.

It also cuts the other way. Because Poly publishes no range and no acceptance rate, anyone quoting you a precise band or a precise admit percentage for Poly is quoting something Poly does not publish. Ask where the number came from.

Quick answers

Is Florida Poly test-optional?

No. Florida Poly requires an SAT, ACT, or CLT score from every applicant. The rule covers the entire State University System under Board of Governors Regulation 6.002. At Poly the math section deserves extra attention, because the whole curriculum leans on it.

What SAT score do Florida Poly students have?

Poly's students average 1215 on the SAT. Poly publishes that single average and no middle 50%, so there is no published band to compare against. Treat 1215 as the centre of the class rather than as a floor.

What is Florida Poly's acceptance rate?

Poly does not publish one. Its facts page reports averages for SAT, ACT and GPA and no admit rate. Figures circulating on third-party college sites are estimates rather than Poly's own reporting, so weigh them accordingly.

Does the Bright Futures 1330 help at Poly?

Yes, and it puts a student above Poly's average rather than merely inside a band. A 1330 clears the Florida Academic Scholars threshold for classes through 2027, covering 100% of tuition and applicable fees, and lands about 115 points above the typical Poly student. At Poly the scholarship is the more demanding of the two targets.

Closing the gap

Our Florida students average a +172 point improvement with the Map, Master, Mock method, and for Poly-bound students the math sections get particular attention: SAT math help aimed at the exact sub-topics costing points.
