Sindhu, then a junior in Odessa, went from a 790 to a 1000 in eight weeks in Florida Test Prep's live group SAT class, taught by Caleb, from January to her March 14 SAT. Her biggest problem was not knowing what the test asks. Once she knew the question types, her reading turned into points and math stopped looking complicated.

What Sindhu's story says about a first SAT score below 800
Where Sindhu started
Sindhu's early tests went badly in a specific way: she walked in without knowing what the SAT was going to ask. "I didn't even know, like, the SAT had those categories before I joined your program," she says.
Her dad Krish worried about the next step, "how my daughter can secure a decent score on SAT so that she can get admitted into good schools in Florida." Sindhu wants to be a lawyer and is aiming for USF or FSU, close to home.
"My dream after high school is to become a lawyer, either in the criminal field or the immigration field."

Step 1 of 3 · Map
The diagnostic, and what it found
The class starts by breaking the SAT into its question categories, so a student sees where the points actually are. What Sindhu and her dad described came down to two things.
| Section | What was leaking points | Why it cost Sindhu |
|---|---|---|
| Both sections | Not knowing what each question type was asking | She went in cold, felt she had never seen the material, and lost time and confidence. |
| Math | Questions that looked harder than they were | Most were basic algebra underneath, and she did not see it yet. |
"I felt like I had never seen this stuff before. I felt like I was extremely underprepared."

Step 2 of 3 · Master
What Sindhu drilled, week by week
The class met for eight weeks with Caleb. Each lesson took one part of the test at a time, and practice tests at home let her run the real format between classes.
| When | Focus | What changed |
|---|---|---|
| The categories | One question category at a time | "Now I know exactly what to look for, and, like, exactly what each question means, and what type of question it is." |
| Reading and Writing | Turning what she already felt good about into points | "The program just helped me, like, amplify that." |
| Math | Seeing the algebra under questions that looked complicated | "It's pretty much a basic algebra problem." |
| At home | Full practice tests in Bluebook, plus Khan Academy | The real test format before test day. |
Sindhu came to class straight from track practice. The class was relaxed enough that she could walk in late and catch up.
"So it was explained to us how the student can prep more and even to write a full test and get the experience while at home."
Sindhu's dad, Krish
Step 3 of 3 · Mock
Rehearsal, then test day
Practice tests at home in Bluebook, the College Board's own testing app, gave Sindhu the real format before March 14. She went in knowing what each question was asking, the thing she said she lacked before.
"it took off the pressure of it being, like, an SAT class"

The result, and what it unlocked
Sindhu scored a 1000 on her March 14 SAT, 210 points above her 790, and above the +172 our students average. "I ended up with 1,000, and I felt pretty, like, concrete about that, because it's a very buildable number," she says.
She came back to Florida Test Prep this fall to keep building as a senior.
| Score | +210 points, from 790 to 1000 |
| Next goal | Her dad is aiming for 1100 and up, where Carson tells families a student starts choosing between several Florida public universities. |
| Bright Futures | Not yet. The Medallion Scholars line for the class of 2027 is 1190, and seniors can test through the August after graduation. |
What Sindhu's story says about a first SAT score below 800
A first score below 800 usually means the student does not yet know what the test asks, and that is the fastest gap to close. Sindhu felt she had never seen the material. Once the class broke the SAT into its question categories, she knew what each question wanted, her reading turned into points, and the math turned out to be algebra in disguise. She gained 210 points in eight weeks, above the +172 our students average, and her 1000 is a base she is still building on.
The misconception: a low first score means the student is bad at tests
A 790 looks like a verdict. Most of the time it is a student meeting the SAT for the first time with no map of it. Sindhu's reading was already a strength; she just did not know what the questions were looking for. Students in this spot often move fastest, because the first couple hundred points come from learning the test itself.
Quick answers
How much can an SAT score go up in eight weeks?
Sindhu went from a 790 to a 1000 in an eight week group class, a 210 point gain. Our students average +172. The biggest jumps often come from students who start low because nobody has shown them what the test asks.
Is a group SAT class enough, or does my child need one-on-one?
Sindhu did the whole program in a live group class with no one-on-one sessions and gained 210 points. A class works when the student shows up and does the practice; one-on-one sessions fit families whose schedule rules out a fixed class time.
Can a student do SAT prep during track season?
Yes. Sindhu came to class straight from track practice in her first weeks and finished all eight. In her words: "I never felt, like, as overwhelmed."

Sindhu: I went from a 790 to 1000 in eight weeks.
Krish (Sindhu's dad): I was worried the most was, how my daughter can secure a decent score on SAT so that she can get admitted into good, good schools in Florida.
Sindhu: And 'cause I didn't even know, like, the SAT had those categories before I joined your program. I felt like I had never seen this stuff before. I felt like I was extremely underprepared. Now I know exactly what to look for So it helped me realize that it's, it's pretty much a basic algebra problem. And I think, like, it took off the pressure of it being, like, an SAT class. Primarily when I was doing my first, few weeks in the program, I was in track and football. I never felt, like, as overwhelmed 'cause it was, like, a very, like, lax class I was able to catch up. I ended up with 1000, and I felt pretty, like, concrete about that because it's a very buildable number.
Krish (Sindhu's dad): Tell the parents that I have seen other programs also which are very prescriptive, and they wouldn't, they wouldn't move out of the la- their line. Wherein Florida Test Prep has had a first call to understand the student primarily.
Sindhu: my dream after high school is to become a lawyer, either in the criminal field or the immigration field. as of right now, I'm striving to go to USF or FSU.
Krish (Sindhu's dad): In that way, Florida Test, Test Prep has al- always stood out.
Sindhu: I think honestly I would tell a friend to take your class
