Scholarship money tied to the SAT in Maryland

Maryland has no statewide scholarship with an SAT cutoff. The Maryland Higher Education Commission's need-based grants (Guaranteed Access, Educational Assistance) are income-tested, not score-tied, and its legislative Senatorial/Delegate scholarships require that an applicant have taken the SAT or ACT but set no minimum score. The state's best-known score-connected money is the University of Maryland's competitive, holistic Banneker/Key Scholarship.

Banneker/Key Scholarship: Requires a 3.20 cumulative GPA each semester and 30 credits/year to keep it; selection is by committee review plus interview, not a score formula.

Senatorial and Delegate Scholarships: Need-based and awarded at each state senator's or delegate's discretion to residents of their district; renewable with continued eligibility.

Quick answers

What SAT score do you need for Washington College?

There is no published minimum; the middle half of the reported group scored 1155 to 1340. A score at or above 1340 puts a student in the top quarter of that group. A score near 1155 is within the range, and grades, coursework and the rest of the application still decide the outcome.

Is Washington College test-optional?

Washington College lists its policy as: Considered if submitted, not required. Check the official admissions page for your entry term before choosing test dates.

What is Washington College's acceptance rate?

56.9% (fall 2024 2,303 of 4,048). Rates vary by program and residency, so read the overall figure as context, not a personal prediction.

Does a score above the range guarantee admission?

No. A middle 50% is a description of last year's group, not a cutoff in either direction. It tells you where a score is competitive, which is the useful part for planning test dates.
